Proper Housing for Conures

Ensure that your Conure has a cage that is large enough to accommodate his active nature. While Conures are not large birds, they require a lot space to move around and play.

The cage should be a minimum of 18" H x 18" L x 18" W for the smaller species; and up to a minimum of 36" x 36" x 36" for the larger species.

The cage should come with a secure door entrance. Conures are smart little critters and will easily figure out how to enter and exit a cage that does not securely close.

Your Conure's new cage should contain at least two perches with one situated as close to the top as possible as this is where your Conure will sleep, and the other perch on a lower level with his food and water.

You want a cage that gives you easy access to all parts so that you can keep your bird's environment clean and healthy.

The bars on the cage need to be no more than one half inch to five eighths of an inch wide. This will insure that your bird doesn't get stuck or caught in between the bars and injure himself.

Playstands and Playgyms

There are many models of playstands made from PVC pipe to wood. Most come equipped with perches, toys, and trays. There        are also cage-top playgyms that fasten to the bars. Playstands are fun for conures because can be handy places to perch your conure where you are doing some activity. This way your conure can be right in the middle of the action, but still safely out of the way.
