Dusky Headed Conure

Scientific Name:    Aratinga weddellii

Distribution:          South America ( Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru)

Relative Size:        This conure is approximately 11 inches (28 cm) long and weight around 90-100 grams.

Average Lifespan:  20- 30 years

Description:          Dusky Conures have a wider eye ring than most conures. They have black mandibles and the feet are gray. This Conure is mostly green, with a greenish yellow tint on the abdomen. The head is a soft brownish gray color with blue edges to the feathers. There is an olive green hue to breast, and the primary wing feathers are black with blue edges, while the other wing feathers are green with blue edges.

 

Breeding:
 
The pair raises their offspring together, nesting in woodpecker holes in trees or arboreal termite nests. Domestic breeders says that this conure is a prolific breeder, and has no set time of the year for breeding.
